LANDISBURG – Francene K. (Berrier) Zimmerman, 73, of Landisburg, formerly of the Mifflintown area, peacefully passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at Holy Spirit Hospital in the presence of her family.

Born November 6, 1945 in Mifflin, PA, she was the daughter of the late Earl P. and Phyllis A. (Kepner) Stoner.

She was the widow of the late Edward A. “Ed” Zimmerman, Sr. whom she married September 4, 1964 and remained lovingly devoted through both better and worse, until his death on August 9, 2012.

She was also preceded in death by: one son, Edward A. “Eddie” Zimmerman, Jr.; and one daughter, Melissa R. Zimmerman.

She is survived by: one son, Eric E. Zimmerman and wife, Jennifer, of Landisburg; three granddaughters, Hannah, Addison, and Molly Zimmerman; one brother Earl “Gene” Stoner of Mifflin and a daughter-in-law, Mylene Yoder of Allensville.

Francene graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1964 and served as treasurer for her high school class reunion committee.

She was employed by the United States Postal Service for many years and worked throughout various offices in Juniata County, ultimately retiring as the Post Master of the Mexico, PA office.

She was a member of the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Juniata Co. and also attended the New Hope United Church of Christ and Mannsville Lutheran Church in Perry Co.

She volunteered at the Perry County Senior Citizens Center, and previously performed volunteer work for hospice care.  She also very much enjoyed square dancing and playing cards on Thursday evenings with her friends on the Perry County side of the mountain.

Francene loved her family and spending time with them. She enjoyed watching any activity that her granddaughters were involved in. She was the bedrock of her family and had an uncanny ability to provide comfort for others, in even the most difficult of times, including during her most recent illness and injury.  Her beautiful smile will be forever remembered and her unwavering optimism, unconditional love, and incredible generosity serve as an example for all to follow.

There will be visitation with the family from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, followed immediately by a memorial service with the Rev. Chris Mathiason officiating.  Both events will take place at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Licking Creek Valley. Interment will be in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery. Everyone is invited to remain after the services to enjoy fellowship and a lunch meal.

The family will provide all funeral flowers and respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 8489 Licking Creek Road, Mifflintown, PA 17059, the Perry County Senior Citizens’ Center, PO Box 703, New Bloomfield, PA 17068, or the Eddie Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Friendship Fire Co., PO Box 274, Port Royal PA 17082.
