     Maxine E. Berry, 89, died Thursday, January 19, 2017, at her home in Thompsontown.

     Born December 22, 1927, in Waterloo, she was a daughter of the late Louden and Phoebe (Diven) Yocum. She was the widow of Harry Berry who died in 1984.

     She is survived by one daughter, Sally Berry of Boca Raton, Florida, one granddaughter, Stephanie Treaster and husband, Brody, of Harrisburg, one great-grandson, Carter Treaster, and one sister, Arlene Campbell of Reeds Gap.

     She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Ritchey, Luetta Hoffman, and her twin, Esther Yocum, who died at birth, and her companion, Gerald "Jerry" Brown in 2001.

     She graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1946.

     She worked as an administrative assistant for the PA state treasury from 1946 to1988 and from 1988 through 2010, she provided care for people in their homes. She loved working and taking care of her clients.

     She was a member of East Waterford United Methodist Church.

     A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third Street, Mifflintown, with Rev. Don Walters, officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the East Waterford United Methodist Church, 32 Main Street, East Waterford, PA 17021 or the American Cancer Society, 1375 Martin St., Ste. 206, State College, PA 16803.

So Sorry to hear of Maxine's passing. I always looked forward to her calling me for flowers around the holidays, especially Easter. We would always chat a few minutes and catch up. What a sweet lady.
