     M. Kenneth Lukens, 89, at Chapel Pointe in Carlisle, and formerly of East Salem, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 26, 2016.

     Born April 26, 1926 in East Salem, he was a son of the late Myers W. and Helen (Brubaker) Lukens.

     He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Geraldine (VanHorn) Lukens, whom he married March 9, 1946, one daughter, Bonnie Benner and husband, Jack, of Mechanicsburg, two grandchildren, Jason Benner and wife, Jennifer, of Stamford, Conn., and Shannon Kostelac and husband, Joel, of Mechanicsburg, four great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Jake Benner and  Andrew and Colby Kostelac.

     He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard W. Lukens and Robert G. Lukens.

     Ken graduated from Thompsontown High School and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II.

     He retired after 40 years as a machinist for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central and Conrail.

     He was a member of East Salem United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, and he belonged to various Masonic organizations.

     A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he cherished his time with his family. He served the Lord by going on 18 missionary trips and was always willing to help others. He enjoyed woodworking and was scoutmaster of East Salem Boy Scout Troop 62.

     His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, at the East Salem United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Otterbein Cemetery, East Salem.

     There will be a viewing from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services Wednesday at the church.

     In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make memorial contributions to the East Salem UM Church to be used for Missions, 7398 Rt. 235, Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Directions to the East Salem United Methodist Church-- Get off Route 22/322 at the Thompsontown exit. Turn right at the bottom of the exit ramp onto Rt. 333. Follow Rt 333 for approximately 3 miles, into the village of East Salem. The church is on the right, at the intersection of Rt 333 and Rt 235.
