Ronald “Ron” Clyde Shearer, 88, of Mifflintown, passed away on Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, at William Penn Nursing Center, Lewistown.
Born Dec. 22, 1935 in Mifflintown, he was a son of the late Clyde V. and Beulah (Hart) Shearer.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Arlene (Pines) Shearer, whom he married Nov. 15, 1957, one daughter, Mary Grace Shearer of Mifflintown, one brother, Robert H. Shearer and wife, Sandra, of Carlisle, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by many aunts and uncles which he loved and respected.
His jobs included working at United Telephone, being a truck driver, and an insurance salesman. As a Juniata County Commissioner for 16 years, he always tried to do the best thing for the citizens of Juniata County. He was very community minded and was on the SETCO Board, the SEDA-COG Board, the 8 County SCWib Board, the Juniata County School Board, the Mifflintown Water Authority Board, was past-president of the Juniata County Library Board and Juniata Business and Industry Board and was a former secretary/treasurer of the State Assoc. of County Commissioners.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Union Lodge 324, Harrisburg Consistory, Perry-Juniata Shrine Club and Tall Cedars and was a life member of Mifflintown Hose Company.
He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and his Friday night card club as well as spending time with his family and friends. He also loved the dogs he owned throughout his life.
His funeral will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 28, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, with Rev. Samuel J. Leister officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Mifflintown. There will be a viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of the services on Wednesday at the church.
