Herbert F. “Herb” Beasom, 96, formerly of Port Royal, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born April 28, 1924, in Van Dyke, he was a son of the late Frank and Goldie Pearl (Frontz) Beasom. His wife, Dorothy (Rice) Beasom, whom he married April 27, 1946, died on November 1, 2014.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol Ann Zeiders and husband, Gary B., of Mifflintown, and Deborah Jane Parson of Port Royal, three grandchildren, Jeffrey (Abbe) Zeiders, Mifflintown, Don (Heather) Zeiders, Hagerstown, MD, Shawn (Lindsay) Parson, Honey Grove, six great-grandchildren, Hannah Zeiders, Mifflintown, Alyssa Zeiders and Jonah Zeiders, Harrisburg, Colin Parson and Cassi Parson, Honey Grove, Presley Zeiders, Hagerstown, MD, two step-grandchildren, Stephen (Cassidy) Keating, Manhattan, KS and Amy (Danny) Gardner, Kansas City, MO, two step-great-grandchildren, Logan Gardner and Jaelyn Gardner, Kansas City, MO, one sister-in-law, Delores Beasom of Newport, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, sisters, and their spouses, Marguerite (Oliver) Foster, Clarence (Mildred) Beasom, Edward (Mary) Beasom, Grace (Paul) Shields, Frank (Clova) Beasom, Donald Beasom, Mary (Ted) Sheibley, James Beasom, and Ray (Florence) Beasom.
Herb was a veteran of the United States Army and a Purple Heart recipient, proudly serving his country during World War II from March 20, 1943 to October 15, 1945 in Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland.
He retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad where he was a welder.
He was a member of Tuscarora Church of the Brethren, where he was formerly the superintendent, janitor and Adult Sunday School Teacher. He also was a member of the V.F.W. Post 5863 in Mifflintown.
He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.
His graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2021, at New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal, with Rev. Joseph Yorks officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
