William S. “Bill” Varner, 92, of McAlisterville, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Brookline Manor.
Born Sept. 29, 1933, in Juniata County, he was a son of the late Norman and Margaret (McManigal) Varner.
He is survived by his wife, Velma N. (Miller) Varner, one son, Steven E. Varner and wife, Susan, one sister, Gail Ann Foltz, five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, William S. Varner, Jr. and Charles David Varner, and three siblings, Robert, Lois, and Mary.
Bill worked in the materials testing lab for Penn Dot. After retiring from the state, he worked for Jay Fulkroad and Sons and Mike Cleck Paving.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, McAlisterville.
He enjoyed hunting, playing baseball and softball and bowling.
There will be a closed casket visitation at Trinity Lutheran Church, McAlisterville on Friday, March 20 beginning at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 at the church with Rev. Karen Ward officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
The family will provide all flowers and requests that memorial contributions be made to Fayette Township EMS, 461 E. Main St., Suite E, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
