Thelma E. Plant, 77, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, unexpectedly at her home in Port Royal.
Born Nov. 24, 1944 in Muncy Valley, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Vera (Houseknecht) Laurenson. Her husband, Rev. Robert J. Plant, whom she married Nov. 23, 1961, passed away on Jan. 20, 1974.
Also preceding her in death were two sons, Robert J. Plant, Jr., and Peter L. Plant.
She is survived by one daughter, Becky Murphy and husband, Roy, of Mifflintown, one grandson, Ty Murphy, one brother, Benjamin Laurenson Jr. and wife, Irene, and one sister, Sandra Shaffer.
Thelma worked at the Ben Franklin in Mifflintown, but spent most of her career at the Mifflin-Juniata Area Agency on Aging, working as an IT technician.
She was very active in the Port Royal United Methodist Church, the Juniata County Business and Professional Women’s Club, and the Port Royal Fire Co. Auxiliary.
Thelma loved the Lord and spent her life serving Him. She had a heart of gold and tried to help others in any way she could. Her family was very important to her and her grandson, Ty, was her pride and joy.
Her funeral will be at 1 pm on Thursday, Oct. 27, at Port Royal United Methodist Church, corner of Market and Fifth Streets, Port Royal, with Pastor Crystal Baumgardner officiating. Interment will follow in New Church Hill Cemetery. Although there will be no viewing, the family will receive friends from 11:30 until the time of the service Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Thelma’s memory may be given to the Port Royal United Methodist Church, PO Box 396, Port Royal, PA 17082 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
