Shirley "Mam" L. (Beward) Zeiders

     Shirley L. “Mam” (Beward) Zeiders, 87, of Mifflintown, went to her heavenly home on Monday, July 11, 2022 at her home in Denholm, surrounded by her loving family.

     Born Feb. 26, 1935, in Mifflin, she was a daughter of the late Bradford George and Alma (Shover) Beward. Her loving husband of 70 years, Melvin L. “Pap” Zeiders, whom she married May 6, 1950, died on June 5, 2020.

     She is survived by one son, Greg and wife, Shirley (Detra) Zeiders, two grandsons, Matthew Zeiders and wife, Suzanne, and Travis Zeiders and wife, Shelley, five grandchildren, Cade and Maelynn Zeiders and Rachel, Levi, and Hannah Zeiders and many nieces and nephews.

      In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Daryl Andrew Zeiders as an infant and Larry “Jug” L. Zeiders, four brothers, Bradford Beward, Chalmer Beward, Donald Beward, and Barry “Jake” Beward and two sisters, Joan Rhea and Mary Berrier.

     Shirley worked at the Selinsgrove State School where she was an LPN and cared for special needs residents. After retiring, she worked at Mac’s Clothing and helped with catering for Zimmie’s Diner.

     She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

     Shirley was a kind and generous person who spent her life caring for her own family, extended family, friends and many others. She always helped and gave her time to people and expected nothing in return. She enjoyed cooking and she loved her family and spending time with them, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

     Her memorial graveside service and interment will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, at Union Cemetery, Mifflintown with Pastor Mindy Petrovcic officiating. If you wish to be seated for the service, please bring a chair. There will be no viewing.
