Sara Louise (Sheets) Varnes

     Sara Louise Varnes, 90, formerly of Mifflintown, passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.

      Born Jan. 20, 1930, in McCoysville, she was a daughter of the late Loyd F. and Bessie (McKinley) Sheets.

     She is survived by two grandchildren, Wayko Varnes and wife, Rachel, of Port Royal, and Farrah Lukens and husband, Chris, of Reedsville, one brother, Donald W. Sheets and wife, Jean, of Mifflin, six great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Rowlan L. Varnes. Sr. on Feb. 26, 1999, two sons, Rowlan Varnes, Jr. and Glenn “Jake” Varnes, and four brothers, Floyd C. Sheets, Sr., Merle “Tim” Sheets, Roy S. Sheets, and Walter L. “Brownie” Sheets.

    Sara worked at Avtex Fibers.

     She loved to cook and bake and she made many dishes that were special to her family. She enjoyed thrift shopping and going to yard sales.

     A private service with burial in Union Cemetery, Mifflintown, will be held at the convenience of the family with a celebration of life to follow at a later date.
