Samuel E. “Sam” McLaughlin, 80, of Port Royal, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021, at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.
Born July 25, 1940, near Spruce Hill, he was a son of the late Clarence E. “Buzz” and Helen Ruth (Keiter) McLaughlin. His wife, Joy C. (Wagner) Houtz McLaughlin, died Dec. 25, 2020.
He is survived by four nieces and nephews and their families, Debra Henry, Roger Winey, Scott McLaughlin, and Pastor Dan Winey, one sister-in-law, Corinne McLaughlin, one brother-in-law, W. Larry Winey, and one step-son, Scott Houtz.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence “Mac” McLaughlin and one sister, H. Ruth Winey.
Sam was a self-employed truck driver who retired from Roadway Trucking. He was a member of Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church at Academia and a life member of the NRA and the Marine Corps League.
He enjoyed hunting, especially hunting big game in the western U.S. and had traveled on several hunting trips where he had gotten an Alaskan brown bear, a moose, several rams, and a caribou. He also enjoyed racing, football and baseball.
His graveside service and interment will be private at Academia Cemetery with Pastor Dan Winey officiating.
