Robert John Campbell, 89, of Mifflintown, peacefully passed away into the arms of Jesus with his family by his side on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024, at Brookline Manor, Mifflintown.
Born Dec. 21, 1934 in Dry Run, Franklin County, he was a son of the late Samuel Harold and Mary Margaret (Beale) Campbell.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen D. (Peterson) Campbell whom he married January 1, 1955 at the East Waterford Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Pamela Sue Maynard and significant other, Sean Lewis, of Savannah, GA, two sons, Robert Douglas Campbell and wife, Pamela (Smith) of Port Royal and Kevin Leroy Campbell and significant other, Jan Fisher, of McAlisterville, one brother, Richard Campbell and wife, Linda, one sister, Peggy Goshorn and husband, Galen, four grandchildren, Bradley Campbell and wife, Stacey, Benjamin Campbell and girlfriend, Erin Leister, Rebecca Alcorn, and Paul Martin III and wife, Emily, three great-grandchildren: Evitt and Tori Campbell, and Catherine Alcorn.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stillborn great-grandson, Cotter Bradley Campbell.
He was a member of the Cedar Grove Brethren In Christ Church, Mifflintown.
He graduated from Fannett-Metal High School, Dry Run, in 1953 and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957.
He served as Justice of the Peace in 1960 at Dry Run and as an elder in the Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church, Spring Run in the 1960’s.
He worked at New Enterprise Stone and Lime Quarry, Dry Run, was a real estate agent with West Real Estate, worked at the American Viscose Corp., Lewistown, and was the owner of Campbell’s Sales and Service, McAlisterville. He drove a tractor trailer coast to coast from 1980 to 2013, receiving a four million mile honorarium.
Bob’s joy in retirement was babysitting his great-grandchildren and having all the families visit. He loved his cattle which he owned until the day he passed away.
His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, at Cedar Grove Brethren In Christ Church, 287 Deerville Road, Mifflintown, with Rev. Steve Munger and Rev. Gary Krabill officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mifflintown, where full military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
There will be a viewing on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the services at the church.
