Nancy Varner, 78, of Oakland Mills, went to be with Jesus at 5:35 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2020 after a battle with cancer.
She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Fern (Brubaker) Wert and was born on Nov. 19, 1941 in Van Wert.
Nancy was dearly loved by her surviving husband of 59 years, Philip C. Varner of Oakland Mills, whom she married Dec. 31, 1960. She is also survived by her three children, Kenneth Varner and his fiancé, Doris Holliday, of McAlisterville, Debra Richmond and her husband, Richard, of Thompsontown, and Lori Zimmerman and her husband, Tim, of Dillsburg, a brother, Sherle Wert and his wife, Mary, and a sister, Judy Kanagy. Her pride and joy included six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Peachey.
Nancy was a member of the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church in Mifflintown, where she served in ministry for over 60 years. Nancy’s ministries included Sunday School teacher, VBS director, various music ministries, hospitality and missions committees, and planning activities for senior adult ministries.
