Miriam 'Midge' Dunn Obituary

Miriam M. “Midge” Dunn, 98, formerly of Thompsontown, passed away on Dec. 25, 2021, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.

Born Nov. 21, 1923 in Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late William and Hannah (Rapp) Detra. Her husband, Lee Dunn, Jr., died on Feb. 3, 1970.

She is the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by three siblings, Lillian Ranck and her husband, Merle, Auldin Detra and his wife, Doris, and William Detra and his wife, Mary.

Midge was dedicated to her family and taking care of them and visiting with them was important to her. She was a very loving aunt who was cherished by her numerous nieces and nephews and their families. As a very positive person, she focused on the good things in people and taught others to always forgive.

She graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1942. She served in the United States Coast Guard from 1944 to 1946, and retired as a secretary from the Mechanicsburg Navy Depot.

She was a member of the Millerstown Moose, the VFW, and the American Legion, where she volunteered many hours.

She enjoyed traveling and had been to every state at least once. She also enjoyed going to the senior citizen’s center for exercise class and eating out. Her favorite place for breakfast was the Thompsontown Corner Deli and she liked to eat lunch at The Little Store near Mifflintown.

A graveside service and interment at Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 298, 29 S. Main St., Mifflintown, PA 17059, VFW Post 5863, 24 S. Main St., Mifflintown, PA 17059 or to Millerstown Moose Lodge 925, 109 W. Juniata Pkwy, Millerstown, PA 17062.
