Melvin "Pap" L. Zeiders

    Melvin L. “Pap” Zeiders, 89, of Mifflintown, went to his heavenly home on Friday, June 5, 2020, at his home in Denholm, surrounded by his loving family.

     Born Sept. 19, 1930, in Licking Creek Valley, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Bardella (Beaston) Zeiders, Sr.

     He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley L. (Beward) Zeiders, whom he married May 6, 1950, one son, Greg and wife, Shirley (Detra) Zeiders, two grandsons, Matthew Zeiders and wife, Suzanne, and Travis Zeiders and wife, Shelley, five grandchildren, Cade and Maelynn Zeiders and Rachel, Levi, and Hannah Zeiders, and three brothers, Richard Zeiders, Karl Zeiders, and Dale Zeiders.

     He was preceded in death by two sons, Daryl Andrew Zeiders as an infant and Larry “Jug” L. Zeiders, one sister, Marie Geedey, and three brothers, Robert Zeiders, Forrest Neil Zeiders, Sr. and Lloyd Zeiders, Jr.

     Melvin worked on the railroad, at Hawstone Brick Yard, at Avtex Fibers, and owned his own excavating business.

     He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and the NRA.

     He was an avid deer and turkey hunter and enjoyed fishing, stock car racing, and operating his bulldozer. He loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

     His memorial graveside service and interment will be private and held at Union Cemetery, Mifflintown, with Pastor Denise Haskins, officiating.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 109 N. Third St., Mifflintown, PA 17059, or to Geisinger Hospice, 106 Derry Heights Blvd, Lewistown, PA 17044.
