Max W. Ernest, 93, of Mifflintown, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021, at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.
Born Aug. 12, 1928, in Milford Township, Juniata Co., he was a son of the late James N. and Pearl S. (Yingling) Ernest. His beloved wife of 73 years, Mary E. (Bossinger) Ernest, whom he married on June 4, 1946, died on Feb. 19, 2020.
He is survived by one daughter, Eleanor Ernest and husband, Angie Smith, of Owego, NY, one daughter-in-law, Pastor Andrea Ernest of Frederick, Md., two grandsons, Dr. Matthew Ernest of Winooski, Vt. and Dr. David Lehman of Falls Church, Va., and a number of caring nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Max Ernest, Jr., and L. Mark Ernest, four brothers, Norman, Austin, Paul and Jim Ernest, two sisters, Ruth Fultz and Helen Shoemaker, and one daughter-in-law, Kathy (Reese) Ernest.
Max worked 32 years at the American Viscose Corporation, lastly as a weaving instructor. He later was a courier for the Juniata Valley Bank for fourteen years.
He and his wife formerly owned and operated the Twin Kiss Ice Cream Stand near Mifflintown for fourteen years.
Max and Mary built their home near Mifflintown and raised their family. Max has lived there 72 years.
He was an active long-time member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown.
He enjoyed hunting, hiking, and helping others. He fixed and refinished furniture for people and there was never a project he was not willing to tackle. The most important thing in his life was his family.
Max was a blessing to his family and friends by sharing his faith and wisdom through his actions. He will be forever missed.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 15, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, with Vicar Samuel J. Leister and Pastor Andrea Ernest officiating. If you attend the service, please wear a mask.
Interment in St. Stephen’s Lutheran Cemetery, Licking Creek Valley, will be at the convenience of the family.
