Mary Saner, 85, of Thompsontown, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020, at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.
Born June 3, 1935, in Belleville, she was a daughter of the late David D. and Bertha (Glick) Zook. Her husband, Elroy Saner, whom she married Jan. 1, 1955, died April 11, 2013.
She is survived by five children, Rick Saner and wife, Jeanette, Roger Saner and wife, Tami, Ralph “Buff” Saner and wife, Cassi, Shari Naylor and husband, Darrell, and David Saner and wife, Nancy, all of Thompsontown, four siblings, Ray Zook of Anderson, SC, David Zook and wife, Jeannie, of Bonita Springs, Fla., Donna Zook of Mifflintown, and Esther Lauver of McAlisterville, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Boyd, and Earl Zook.
She graduated from Lancaster Mennonite High School in 1954.
Mary was a homemaker and helped her husband on their farm. She was a Home Interiors demonstrator from 1985 until 2010.
She was a very active member of Cedar Grove Brethren In Christ Church and was formerly a member of Delaware Mennonite Church and Lost Creek Mennonite Church. She continued to be active with the Lost Creek Mennonite Church Sewing Circle. She enjoyed going to Silver Sneakers, putting puzzles together, doing aerobics, camping, watching various sports, and baking blue ribbon cherry pies.
She loved music and played the piano and accordion and sang with the New Life Trio, with David’s Daughters, and with the Juniata Valley Chorus.
She volunteered with the Crossroads Pregnancy Center, as a driver for Juniata Meals on Wheels, and at the Walker Township polling place during the elections.
She loved her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her funeral will be private with Pastor Ken Hepner, officiating. A private interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mifflintown. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later time.
