Mary E. Ernest, 91, of Mifflintown, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020, at Brookline Manor.
Born Sep. 10, 1928 in Mifflin, she was the only child of the late Leslie Andrew and Ethel Mae (Farleman) Bossinger.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 73 years, Max W. Ernest, Sr., whom she married June 4, 1946, one daughter, Eleanor Ernest and husband, Angie Smith, of Owego, NY, one daughter-in-law, Pastor Andrea Ernest of Frederick, Md., and two grandsons, Dr. Matthew Ernest of Winooski, Vt. And Dr. David Lehman of Falls Church, Va.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Max Ernest, Jr., and Mark Ernest.
Mary and Max have also been supported by caring nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
Mary worked at various jobs throughout her lifetime including the Arrow Shirt Company where she was first a machine operator and later a receptionist and office manager and at the Weis Market where she was in charge of the “Tasting Table”. She and her husband owned and operated the Twin Kiss Ice Cream Stand near Mifflintown for fourteen years.
Max and Mary built their home near Mifflintown and raised their family. They have lived there 71 years.
Mary was a life-long active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, where she began teaching Sunday school at age 12.
Her hobbies included hiking, knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. She influenced many people with her adult coloring. The most important thing in her life was her family.
Mary was a blessing to her family and friends by sharing her faith and wisdom through her actions. She will be forever missed.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, with Vicar Samuel J. Leister and Pastor Andrea Ernest officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church Needlers, 3 S. Third Street, Mifflintown, PA 17059, or to the DeLauter Youth Center, 335 Washington Ave., Mifflintown, PA 17059.
The family would like to thank everyone at Brookline, especially the Wing 2 staff, for the kind and compassionate care Mary received during her stay.
