Martha "Marte" C. (Grabowski) Lock

Martha C. “Marte” Lock, 90, of Mifflintown, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, at her home.

Born Nov. 26, 1932, in Parkesburg, she is a daughter of the late Anthony S. and Sophie C. (Gabriel) Grabowski. 

On June 7, 1952, she married Martin O. “Marty” Lock, and they were blessed to share nearly 64 years of marriage before his passing on Sunday, May 15, 2016.

Surviving are her children, James M. Lock and his wife, Susan, of Philadelphia, Tina M. Millar, of Mifflintown, Thomas M. Lock and his wife, Julia, of Spruce Hill, Mary Beth Matlock and her husband, Mark, of Camp Hill, Matthew J. Lock and his wife, Ann, of Mifflintown, and Becky A. Lock, of Mifflintown; 11 grandchildren, Josh Kauffman, Paul Millar, Erika Camm, Holly Cabell, Mark Millar, Dr. Crystal Lock, Ben Lock, Melissa Millar, Michael Lock, Lauren Lock, Katie Lock; and 10 great-grandchildren, Illyana Camm, Landon Millar, Kya Camm, Claire Cabell, Vivian Cabell, Charlotte Cabell, Maleah Kauffman, Cora Kinney, Zara Lock and Evelyn Millar; a sister, Irene Caldi and husband, Verlin, of Florida; nieces and nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents and husband, Martha was preceded in death by a daughter in 1955; brothers, James, in infancy, and Joseph; three sisters, Frances, Dorothy and Clara; a niece, Amy Lanigan; and many friends.

Martha worked briefly as a switchboard operator at Bell Telephone Co. in Philadelphia, then devoted herself to raising her family. After her children were grown, she enjoyed serving others as a home health aide.

Earlier in life, she enjoyed gardening; cross-stitching, sewing and other crafts; reading; birdwatching; and cooking. Her specialties included golumpki, potato salad and coleslaw.

She was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, Mifflintown.

Martha’s life revolved around her family. She loved being a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

 A private graveside service and the interment will be held at Union Memorial Cemetery, Mifflintown, with Chaplain Tavis Stauffer officiating.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Nicki Vithalani, and the nurses and aides with 365 Hospice, who brought much peace and comfort to Martha and her caregivers over the past three months.
