Martha A. Beatty, 95, formerly of Rockville, passed away Monday, Dec. 28, 2020, at William Penn Nursing Home, Lewistown.
Born June 9, 1925, in Academia, she was a daughter of the late Chester R. and Bessie Marie (Groninger) Barton. Her husband, James R. Beatty, whom she married May 26, 1947, died on Oct. 1, 2006.
She is survived by four children, Marie E. McNaight and husband, Harry, of Mifflintown, James E. Beatty and wife, Barbara, of Mifflintown, Gary L. Beatty and wife, Linda, of McAlisterville, and Curtis P. Beatty and wife, Teresa, of Millerstown, seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Esther Van Horn, Ruth Linn, Josephine Crozier, and Jean Van Horn, one brother, Paul Barton, and one grandson, Michael Wagner.
Martha graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1944. She was a seamstress and worked in several local sewing factories.
She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Mifflintown.
She liked to quilt and when her husband was alive, they enjoyed going camping. She loved getting together with her family, especially when they would gather for family picnics.
There will be a public graveside service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, at Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Cemetery, Academia, with Pastor Nancy McClure officiating.
The family appreciates the care that Martha received from the nurses and aides that cared for her at William Penn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 208 Lemon St., Mifflintown, PA 17059 or to the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Cemetery, c/o Mary Louise Bell, 641 Glenn Hollow Road, Port Royal, PA 17082.
