Marlin P. “Skip” Garland, 83, of Mifflintown, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021 at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.
Born Dec. 25, 1937 in Mifflintown, he was a son of the late William and Anna (Makins) Garland.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy (Zeiders) Garland, whom he married Aug. 7, 1960, three children, Okee Garland and wife, Darcy, of Conyngham, Lois Rae Boor and husband, Ed, of Everett, and Zina Klinger and husband, Sam, of Mifflintown, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Mahlon, Bill, and Eugene Garland, and one sister, Lois Rae Kirk.
Skip graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1957 and was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He served from 1957 to 1961 and was on the USS General Butler Speagle Grove.
He worked in the yard and delivered materials at Juniata Lumber and Supply and retired from Empire Kosher in 2007.
He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
He was a train enthusiast and enjoyed gardening and taking care of his fish aquarium.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13, at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown with Pastor Dave Landis officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Mifflintown where full military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council. There will be no viewing.
