Marion E. Swailes, 86, of Mexico, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020, at William Penn Nursing Home, Lewistown.
Born Jan. 6, 1934, at home in Mexico, she was a daughter of the late Ralph H. and Sara (Gill) Kauffman. Her husband, Samuel Issac Swailes, whom she married Aug. 31, 1979, died Nov. 4, 2011.
She is survived by two daughters, Judy A. Kauffman and companion, Robert Hackenberger, of Thompsontown and Lisa K. Singer of Mexico, one brother, Howard D. “Duck” Kauffman, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six siblings, Betty McKee, Dale Kauffman, Genette Summers, Ralph “Toby” Kauffman, James Kauffman and Charlotta Kauffman who died in infancy.
Marion graduated from Juniata Joint High School and was a seamstress at local sewing factories. She also cooked at Nipple's Nursing Home and was a caregiver for her mother.
She was a member of Tuscarora Church of the Brethren.
She loved to cook and bake and enjoyed putting puzzles together and going to flea markets.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, those who desire are asked to make a memorial contribution to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
