Margaret F. Guss, 86, of Mifflintown, died Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born May 25, 1935, in Potts Grove, she was a daughter of the late Walter Roland and Mildred Isabel (Moorhead) Fenstermacher. Her husband of 56 years, Karl Edward “Eddie” Guss, whom she married September 7, 1957, died on April 12, 2014.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara G. Partner and husband, Scott, of Mifflintown, and Gerri G. Thomas and husband, Geoff, of Wright, WY, five grandchildren, Shannon Adams and husband, Mark, of Bear, DE, Bryan Partner and wife, Amber Rock, of Fayetteville, NC, Katlyn Schultz and husband, Josh, of Laramie, WY, Rachel Partner of Mifflintown, and Cameron Thomas of Cheyenne, WY and one great-granddaughter, Elouise Shultz.
In addition to her husband and parents, Peggy was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Jane Fenstermacher, and one great-grandson, Caleb Schultz.
After graduating from Milton High School, she graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Home Economics. She taught Home Ec for several years in Juniata County and then worked as a caseworker for the Juniata Co. Assistance Office. Her next job was a Home Economist with Penn State Extension and she retired in 1986 from Community Residential Rehabilitation Program, Lewistown.
As a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, she had been active on church council, in WELCA and Junior choir. She also played the piano for church and Sunday school and helped maintain the church library. Peggy was a former leader of Girl Scout Troop 313 and a member, past matron (1964-1965), and organist for many years of Mifflin Chapter No.260 Order of the Eastern Star.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, reading, knitting, crocheting, playing the piano and working outside with her flowers. She collected cardinals, music boxes, and items by artist, Tasha Tudor. “Nene” was very proud of her grandchildren and loved them dearly.
Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with Vicar Sam Leister officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery.
There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
