John L. Hostetler, 67, of Mifflin, passed from the loving arms of his wife into the loving arms of Jesus on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Texas Health Southwest Harris Hospital, Fort Worth, Texas, surrounded by his family.
Born May 18, 1954 in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Solomon and Nancy (Hostetler) Hostetler.
He is survived by his first love, Helen (Yeater) Hostetler, whom he married on Sept. 12, 2020, one step-daughter, Deedre Mitchell and husband, Clint, of Thompsontown, three grandchildren, Ryan, Avery and Jax Mitchell, all of Thompsontown and his beloved dog, Mojo.
Also surviving are one brother, William Hostetler and wife, Lori, of McClure, two sisters, Barbara McKnight and husband, John, of McClure and Bonnie Cavanaugh of Lewistown, a niece, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Boyer and Brenda Jones, one nephew, Jason Cavanaugh and one brother-in-law, Lloyd Cavanaugh.
He was educated in schools throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio.
John was a self-employed semi-truck driver for forty-five years. He worked many years for D&T Trucking in Minnesota where he received numerous awards. He currently worked for M&R Trucking in Wisconsin.
He attended River Church, Mifflintown.
He loved traveling. He enjoyed trips to the Outer Banks and, while driving truck, he traveled to every state except Alaska and Hawaii. At one time in his life, he went to Belize on a mission trip to help build a church.
He loved riding his Harley motorcycles.
But most of all, he loved his family. He loved attending his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. He was very devoted to his entire family and treasured all the times he spent with them.
John had a great sense of humor. He was a very kind and generous man, who would help anyone in need. He was much loved by many and will be very sadly missed.
His memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10 at River Church with Pastor Robert Landis officiating. There will be an opportunity to visit with his family from 1 p.m. until the time of the services.
