Joanne L. Kauffman, 90, of McVeytown, formerly of the Mifflintown area, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021, at her home.
Born Sept. 18 1931, in Mifflintown, she was a daughter of the late Darwin and Ruth (Horning) Zook. Her husband, James A. Kauffman, Sr., whom she married on June 11, 1949, passed away on Oct. 16, 2003.
She is survived by three children, Julie Sunderland and husband, John, and Jeanne Wagner and husband, Roy, all of McVeytown, and James Kauffman Jr. and wife, Brenda, of Mifflintown, five grandchildren, James Kauffman III, Rachel Foltz, Ben Wagner, Samantha Peachey, and Linette Weikel, 15 great-grandchildren, Hannah Pennepacker, Ethan, Nathan, Jonathan and Aubree Kauffman, Grace and Alivia Foltz, Max and Logan Wagner, Aaron, Cassandra, Amy and Elizabeth Peachey, and Audrey and Emma Weikel, and two great-great-grandsons, Carter Kauffman and Rhett Pennepacker.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by four brothers, Fred, Darwin, Merle and Cyril Zook, one sister, Ruth Zook, and one granddaughter, Jennifer Sunderland.
She graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1949.
She was a USDA Government Poultry Inspector at Empire Kosher Poultry until she retired.
She loved to watch Pirates baseball and Nittany Lion football. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, scrabble, crocheting and gardening. She loved her family unconditionally and was their constant prayer warrior.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with Pastor Glenn Smith, officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Mifflintown.
There will be a viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
