Janice Elaine Longwell Barnes, 83, of Thompsontown, crossed over to be with our Lord Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born Jan. 13, 1938, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Ned and Kathryn (Thomas) Longwell.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Joseph E. Barnes, whom she married June 12, 1955, three sons, Joseph E. Barnes, Jr., Jeffrey V. Barnes and wife, Janet, and Jamie W. Barnes and wife, Karen, all of Thompsontown, one sister, Judy A. Bassler and husband, Earl, of Thompsontown, five grandchildren, Malea Haflett and husband, Matt, Mashana Cunningham and husband, Brett, Maranda McCleaf and husband, Dan, William Barnes and wife, Chelsea, and Thomas Barnes and wife, Hayley, and seven great-grandchildren, Lilia and Dex Haflett, Taylor and Tyler Cunningham, Kadence and Savanna McCleaf, and Rhett Barnes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas N. Barnes, and two sisters, Jackie and Joan Longwell.
Janice graduated from Greenwood High School in 1955.
She worked with her husband at Barnes Body Shop as the bookkeeper and also worked at East Salem Shirt Factory.
She was a member of Locust Run United Methodist Church and Eastern Star.
She enjoyed bowling, going to Atlantic City, and attending go-cart races. She especially loved her family and spending time with them.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct 13, at Locust Run United Methodist Church, with Pastor Don Walters officiating. Interment will be in Locust Run Cemetery.
There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown. There will not be a viewing at the church.
Those attending the services are asked to observe current Covid protocol.
