James R. Casner, 90, of Mifflintown, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born Jan. 29, 1933, in Mifflintown, he was a son of the late Jamie B. and Edith (Walker) Casner.
He is survived by his wife, Helen A. (Geedey) Casner, whom he married Nov. 8, 1952, one daughter, Connie Hohol and husband, Walter, of Mifflintown, one daughter-in-law, Christine Casner of Mifflintown, four grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joad R. Casner, one grandson, Joshua J. Hohol, and two brothers, Kenneth Casner and Donald “Mope” Casner.
Jim graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1951. He worked as a material handler at the American Viscose Corp. and retired from Conrail where he was a locomotive engineer.
He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and the United Transportation Union.
He enjoyed working with wood, hunting, and camping with his family, especially at the beach.
There will be a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 27 at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, followed by his memorial service 11 a.m. with Toby Spigelmyer officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Union Cemetery, Mifflintown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1125 US 522, Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
