Jacob “Jake” H. High, 90, of Mifflintown, formerly of Manheim, Lancaster Co., went to be with Jesus on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, at his home.
Born May 27, 1933, in East Earl, Pa., he was one of thirteen children of the late John and Amanda (Hording) High.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Arlene (Gehman) High, whom he married Oct. 23, 1954, four daughters, Shirley Drewes and husband, Doug of Mifflintown, Sharon Ginder and husband, Larry, of Manheim, Sandra McCoy and husband, Scott, of Hershey, and Sharlene Long and husband, Ray, of Elizabethtown, one brother Melvin High and wife, Anna, of Donna, Texas, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Jake was a cattle farmer, truckdriver and repaired and sharpened clippers.
He was a member of Lost Creek Mennonite Church but attended Faith Bible Church, Port Royal. He was active with Light Of Hope Prison Ministry.
The top priority in his life was God, followed closely by his love and devotion to his family. He was an avid hunter and talented woodworker and enjoyed playing the harmonica, putting jigsaw puzzles together, and drinking coffee with his friends. He was always happy and known for his smile.
His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Cedar Grove Brethren In Christ Church, 287 Deerville Road, Mifflintown, with Pastors Gene Forrey, Dr. Glen Webb and Brent Knepp officiating. Interment will be in Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Cedar Grove BIC Church and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at the church.
