J. Paul Peoples

     J. Paul Peoples, 88, formerly of Oakland Mills, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020, at Brookline Manor, Mifflintown.

     Born Dec. 16, 1931 in Fayette Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Joseph Edward and Margaret Viola (Depew) Peoples. His wife of 66 years, M. Elizabeth “Libby” (Fazenbaker) Peoples, whom he married on Dec. 13, 1953, died on March 4, 2020.

     He is survived by five children, Peggy J. Sholly and husband, Stephen, of Mifflintown, Beth A. Burd and companion, Thomas “Jim” Tyler, of McAlisterville, Susan Eaton and husband, Brand, of Dillsburg, Paul “Ed” Peoples of Mifflintown, and Alan K. Peoples of Lewistown,  five grandchildren, Michael Fry and wife, Michele, Jennifer Gleim, Robert Eaton and wife, Kimberly, Andrew Eaton and wife, Kaitlyn, and Benjamin Sholly and wife, Tiffany, seven great-grandchildren, Dominic Fry and wife, Hannah, Curtis Fry, Alivia Hoover, Aubrey Eaton, Annabelle Eaton, Isaac Baker, and Conner Sholly, one great-great grandson, Ezra A. Fry, and one sister, Helen Smith and husband, James, of Harrisburg.

     He was preceded in death by a stillborn son and two brothers, J. William “Bill” Peoples and Marvin L. Peoples.

     Paul graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1949. He owned and operated Peoples Sales and Service, Inc. in Oakland Mills for many years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and, in his younger years, hunting.

     He was a very active and involved member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church and formerly belonged to several Masonic organizations.

     His funeral will be private with his son-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Brand Eaton, officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pine Grove United Methodist Church, 4633 Cuba Mills Road, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
