Hilda J. Elder, 97, formerly of Mifflintown, died Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born August 12, 1922, in Naginey, she was the daughter of the late Adam Wayne and Mary Elizabeth Wagner Fultz.
She is survived by four children, Janet L. Houtz (Herman) of Newport, Elizabeth E. Eberhart of Mechanicsburg, David A. Elder (Nancy) of Thompsontown and Timothy J. Elder (Dawn) of Mifflintown, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters, Rebecca Burd , Athalia Specht and Bertha Penepacker and two brothers, Curtis Fultz and Sherman Q. Fultz.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James Allen Elder, on September 16, 2011, two brothers, Nicholas and George Fultz, and two sisters, Sylvia Cherry and Helen Zimmerman.
Hilda was a 1941 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, worked at the American Viscose Corporation for 30 plus years and in retirement was co-owner of Elder’s Consignment Shop.
She worked tirelessly cleaning, baking cookies, making soup for neighbors and friends and entering prize winning cross stitch quilts at local fairs.
She had been a long-time member of Arch Rock Methodist Church and was a member of Intercontinental Church of God.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at Union Cemetery, Mifflintown, with Pastor Dan Kerlin officiating. There will be no viewing.
The family will provide all flowers and requests that donations be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
