Helen H. Crozier, 97, of Mifflintown, passed away Friday, Aug. 6, 2021, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born Oct. 3, 1923 in Milford Township, Juniata Co., she was a daughter of the late James Melvin and Salina Jane (Guss) Houtz. Her husband, J. Harold Crozier, died on May 1, 1987.
She is survived by three children, D. Perry Crozier of Mifflintown, Jolene Crozier of Lewistown, and Marrianne Crozier of Mifflintown, six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Marian R. Towsey, Bernice Copenhaver and Pauline Hart, and one brother, Wayne G. Houtz.
Helen graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1942 and was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church.
Helen worked very hard throughout her life. During World War II, she worked several years in Elizabethtown, supporting the war effort. With her husband on their farm, she carried buckets of water to the livestock, moved bales of hay and straw, carried bags of feed weighing up to 100 pounds and moved manure. She also helped her husband with the mill work at Doyle’s Mills. In later life, she was a seamstress at Juniata Garment in Mifflin.
She enjoyed sewing and singing in the church choir. She especially loved her family and helping her children and grandchildren. She was a great homemaker, cook, pie baker and canner. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 10 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Licking Creek Valley, with Vicar Samuel Leister officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephen’s Lutheran Cemetery.
There will be a viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of the services on Tuesday at the church.
