Gerald B. Spigelmyer, 83, of 190 Green Acres Lane, Mifflintown, died December 13, 2020, at his home.
Born September 12, 1937, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Roy and Barteen (Brower) Spigelmyer. His wife, Doris J. (Bradley) Spigelmyer, whom he married July 7, 1956, died September 9, 1999.
He is survived by six children: Toby L. Spigelmyer and wife Beth, Andy D. Spigelmyer and wife Mary, Michael B. Spigelmyer and wife Karen, Todd B. Spigelmyer and wife Kendra, Jason B. Spigelmyer and wife Eliza, and Tammy J. Brackbill and husband Michael. In addition, he is survived by twelve grandchildren: Jared Spigelmyer and wife Laura, Tia Spigelmyer, Kier Spigelmyer and wife Lisa, Bryn Spigelmyer and wife Sierra, Katelyn Sitler and husband Macabe, Kyle Brackbill and wife Shelly, Brandon Nipple and companion Caitlin Wickard, Atalaya Howard and husband Austin, Gideon Spigelmyer, Tanner Nipple, Brett Spigelmyer, and Tessa Spigelmyer, as well as eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother Paul Spigelmyer and wife Linda, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Karin E. (McKenna) Spigelmyer and one son-in-law, Timothy E. Nipple.
Out of high school, Gerald started his working career in the construction trades and then farming. The occupation that he was most known for was the sawmill/timber business that he and his family started in the early 1970’s. That business, now known as Spigelmyer Wood Products, continues to this day.
As a member of the Mifflintown Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he enjoyed sharing Bible truths with his neighbors. He assisted in building numerous kingdom halls throughout Pennsylvania and in locations such as Alaska, Maine, and other states in between! He also assisted in the building of the Grantville Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Grantville, PA, and he shared in disaster relief in Florida after Hurricane Andrew helping to repair kingdom halls and homes.
Later in life some of his hobbies included watching the birds and other wildlife, drinking coffee every morning with his neighbors, lending a listening ear and offering sound advice to all.
