Fred Zimmerman, Sr. Obituary

Fred R. Zimmerman, Sr., 79, of Mifflintown, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 29, 2025.

Born October 26, 1945, in Licking Creek Valley, he was a son of the late Chester and Sara (Nealman) Zimmerman.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda (Stoner) Zimmerman whom he married Jan. 25, 1980. Fred said he had to marry her in an even year so in the future, he could easily remember the year they married.

He was a loving father to their children, Barry Kepner, Jr. and wife, Paula, Laura Espigh and husband, Tim, Kristine Sikes and husband, Justin, and Fred Zimmerman Jr. and long-time companion, Lori Wilson. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren, Caitlin, Mitchell, Jack and Garrett, his godson, Curtis Stoner, three siblings, Darleen “Sis” Long, Richard Zimemrman and wife, Linda, and Teddy Jo Zimmerman, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Dave, Ken, Butch, Ed, Jerry, Ferry, and Larry Zimmerman, two sisters, Vicki Bryner, and Brenda Brookhart, and his beloved daughter-in-law, Sue.

Fred attended Juniata Joint High School.

He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was very proud of his service.

In earlier years, he worked for Manbeck Construction and then was the Maintenance Supervisor at Locust Grove Village until his retirement.

He was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Mifflintown V.F.W., Camp Crossing and Spectacle Camp.

He was happiest at Camp Crossing and in his tree stand. Hunting season was the highlight of his year. He enjoyed watching old Westerns and watching the wildlife from the sunroom he built on their house. He was fun-loving and always friendly. He loved family outings and especially time spent with his grandchildren.

Following Fred’s wishes, he is being cremated. There will be a visitation on Friday, Oct. 3, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S.
