Elda Haubert Flood Obituary

     Elda M. Haubert Flood, 87, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville. Born March 5, 1933 in Mexico to Ruth (Book) and Lloyd S. Gingrich she was a lifelong resident of Juniata County. 

     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands Roland R. Haubert to whom she was married from 1953 until his death in 1971 and Richard Flood to whom she was married from 1979 to 2011. 

     She is survived by children: Gayle A. (Haubert) Cowan and husband, Ronald, of Lewistown, Wendy Haubert of Midlothian, VA, MariJo (Haubert) Keister of Mexico and companion, Rick Garman, Kenneth Haubert and wife, Trisha, of Mifflintown; by siblings: Ethel Cross and husband, Richard, of Pinehurst, N.C., Miriam Keefer of Millersburg, Marvin Gingrich and wife, Sandee, of Orangeburg, S.C., Blain Gingrich and wife, Mary, of Wilmington, Del., Harold Gingrich and wife, Carol, of Millersburg, and Dorothy Cross and husband, Howard, of Dover, TN; by grandchildren, Amanda Biddle-Hile and husband, Orris, of Spring Mills, Sarah Rodenizer of Mexico, Katie Deitz of Winter Park, Fla., Lindsey Haubert of Thompsontown, Eric Haubert of Mifflintown, Kevin Deitz of Midlothian, Va, Ethan Haubert of Mifflintown, Shanna Cowan of Shippensburg, and Casey Cowan and wife, Jolene, of Huntingdon; great-grandchildren Owen, Ariston, Maverick, Deacon and Stellan Hile of Spring Mills. 

     Elda graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1950 and the Polyclinic School of Nursing in 1953. She then began her career at Lewistown Hospital from which she retired in 1998. She held RN positions in Maternity, Nursing Supervisors, Nursing Administration, and the Emergency Department. Following retirement from full-time, Elda worked part time as a Patient Companion for several more years. 

     She was an active member of the Centre Lutheran Church serving as Treasurer for WELCA and was active in making blankets, communion cloths and the annual fundraising bar-b-que. 

     Elda enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking and gardening. She liked to travel. Some of her favorite trips included the Atlantic beaches with children, Myrtle Beach with siblings, Alaska, the western U.S., New England, Nova Scotia and Ireland. She was interested in plays and musical venues, and was a regular patron of Theatre in the Park. 

     A Remembrance Drop-in will be held for friends and family from 5 to 8 pm on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Annsfield, 26599 Rte 35 N, Mifflintown, PA 17059.  All COVID-19 precautions will be followed and please remember to wear a mask. The family will have a private graveside service at Adams Cemetery, Mifflintown, presided by Reverend Mike Sigler of Centre Lutheran Church. 

     The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions in Elda’s memory may be made to Centre Lutheran Church, 9259 William Penn Highway, Mifflintown, PA 17059 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave. STE. 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110-9638.
