Donald C. “Mope” Casner, 85 of Mifflintown, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at his home.
Donald was born on March 6, 1936 in Bergenfield, New Jersey to Jamie and Edith (Walker) Casner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Kerry Dea Casner and a brother Kenneth R. Casner.
He is survived by his wife, Jocelyn “Josie” (Crozier) Casner whom he married on June 21, 1958 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Tobi Kane and husband, Michael, grandsons William “Bill” Gilson and wife, Bonita, Ryan Casner, Michael Casner and Stephen Casner, great-granddaughters Lexie and Lindsea Gilson, brother James R. Casner and wife, Helen, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1954. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He attended The University Center of PA in Harrisburg for Civil Engineering and obtained his professional Engineering License in 1975. He retired from the PA Department of Transportation as a civil engineer. After retirement, he worked for the Corrugated Steel Pipe Association. He served on the Mifflintown Municipal Water Authority Board and he was the Mifflin Borough’s engineer and building permit officer. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Capital City Polka Dancers. He was a member of The Mifflintown Lions Club and served as President between 1998-1999 and was a coach for the Mifflin Pee Wees football team.
Don loved technology and hand-built computers for each of his four grandsons. He enjoyed square dancing, traveling and many social events with his wife and friends, attending coffee club at Stop 35 and golfing with his buddies. He loved attending his great granddaughters sporting events, singing and dancing performances. He will be remembered for teaching polka classes with his wife and numerous appearances on Pennsylvania Polka, WVIA TV Scranton/Wilkes Barre.
Per his request, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church, Box F, Mifflin, PA 17058 or Juniata County Meals on Wheels, PO Box 251, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
