Donald W. (Sr.) Sheets

       Donald W. Sheets, Sr., 84, of Mifflin, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, at Hershey Medical Center.

     Born Nov. 24, 1938, in Nook, he was a son of the late Lloyd Foster and Bessie (McKinley) Sheets.

     He is survived by his wife, Jean (Lahr) Sheets, four children, Dr. Donald Sheets, Jr. and wife, Chris, Cathy Russell, Phillip Sheets and wife, Sussane, and Heather Sheets, eight grandchildren, Travis, Brittany, Courtney, Cody, Ethan, Isabell, Jacob and Katie, and two great-grandsons, Riley and Jaxson.

     He was preceded in death by four brothers, Timothy Sheets, Floyd Sheets, Roy Sheets, and Walter “Brownie” Sheets, one sister, Sara Louise Varnes, and one great-granddaughter, Rosalee DeWitt.

     He graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1956 and joined the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served for 27 years. After he retired from the service, he drove truck and then worked at the Selinsgrove Center for 20 years.

     He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. in Mifflintown, and the Lewistown Moose.

     He enjoyed hunting and fishing. But most of all he loved his family. His grandkids were his pride and joy.

     His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 23 at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with Rev. Judy Rowles officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Nook, where full military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.

     There will be a viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Monday at the funeral home.
