Delmar C. Zimmerman, 86, of Walnut-Hills Farm, Mifflin, passed away Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, at Locust Grove Retirement Village.
Born Feb. 2, 1940 on the family farm, he was a son of the late Lyman C. and Sara E. (Saylor) Zimmerman.
He is survived by one brother, Larry W. Zimmerman, nieces and nephews, Diane Cornman (Michael), David Glock (Susan), Bianca Zimmerman, Angie Nearhood (Todd) and Greg Colyer (Heather), great-nephew and nieces, Mason Cornman, Hayley Barnes (Tommy) and Sydney Colyer (fiancé, Garrett Bard) and great-great-niece, Hadley Barnes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Darwin E. “Doc” Zimmerman, and two sisters, Verta Colyer, and Cynthia Glock.
Delmar graduated from Juniata Joint High School. He was involved in the FFA there and at age 20, he and his brother had to take over the family farm. He went on to develop the well-known Walnut-Hills herd of registered Holsteins where he owned and bred (with his brother Larry) 75 excellent cows, 7 Dam of Merits, 2 Gold Medal Dams and 1 Gold Medal Sire. He also bred and owned an EX-95 point cow. They owned and bred the 1989 Res. All-American Produce of Dam along with numerous All-Pennsylvania and Junior All-PA Awards. He showed cattle all over the country including the World Dairy Expo in Wisconsin, North American International Livestock Exposition in Kentucky and the Canadian Royal Agricultural Fair in Ontario Canada. He was awarded Farmer of the Year by the Juniata County Fair. He, his brother, and the Zimmerman Family were recently inducted into the PA Holstein Association Hall of Fame.
Delmar was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church and enjoyed going to the races in early life. Over the years, he donated milk to the church and several firemen’s festivals for fundraisers to support the community. He was an early stockholder in the Juniata County Agricultural Society, was President of the Juniata County Holstein Club and served on various agricultural committees.
There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, at Guss Funeral Home, Inc. 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the funeral at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Richard Adams officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Stephen’s Lutheran Cemetery, Licking Creek Valley.
