Cloyd A. “Butch” Pines, Jr., 74, of Mifflintown, passed away Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Born April 24, 1947, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Cloyd A. and Mary Jane (Smith) Pines, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra L. (Wieseman) Pines, whom he married Oct. 28, 1967, one daughter, Michelle R. Stoner and husband, Daniel, of Port Royal, siblings, Barbara Geedey of Mifflintown, Arlene Shearer and husband Ronald C., of Mifflintown, H. Richard Pines, and wife, Rachel, of Manassas, Va., and Janice Book and husband, William, of Mechanicsburg, a son-in-law, William A. “Willie” Walton, a grandson he adored, Braedon J. Walton, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tambra J. “Tammy” Walton, on Sept. 8, 2014, and one brother-in-law, Kenneth Geedey.
Butch was a Warrant Officer 3 for the Pennsylvania National Guard, entering the Guard in 1966 and retiring in 2007 after 41 years of military service.
He was a very active member of Messiah Lutheran Church who served on the property committee, as an usher, and made baptismal boxes from wood reclaimed from the church. He was a member of the Lost Creek Golf Course, the Juniata County Veterans Council, and chairman of Twin Boroughs Sanitary Authority since 1984.
He enjoyed golfing, doing yard work, being a handyman, and visiting with his friends on his daily trips to Casner’s Garage. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson, attending and hosting family gatherings, going to his grandson’s events, and traveling on family trips to Myrtle Beach and the Poconos. Earlier in his life, he worked on vehicles for others. If someone needed something, Butch was there to give a helping hand.
His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, with Vicar Sam Leister, officiating. Interment will follow in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
There will be a viewing Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. All services will be at Messiah Lutheran Church.
