Charlotte M. (Orwan) McGowan

     Charlotte M. McGowan, 95, of Thompsontown, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 23, 2020, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

     Born May 29, 1924 in Millerstown, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Bessie (Jacobs) Orwan.

     She is survived by eleven children, Harry Rice and wife, Nancy, Ralph Rice, Patsy Maneval and husband, Elwood, Anna Beachel and husband, Terry, all of Thompsontown, Robert Rice and wife, Eileen, of Millerstown, Bessie Speece and husband, Dwayne, Kenneth McGowan, and Helen Smith, all of Mifflintown, Paul Rice and wife, Pamela, of McAlisterville, Jean Bower and husband, Harold, of Camp Hill, and Shirley Hargett and husband, Frank, of Mifflin, one sister, Bessie “Becky” Myers of Mechanicsburg, 26 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Rice, Sr., one son, Sylvester Rice, Jr., one sister, Janet Rhoads, three brothers, Harry, Harvey, and Frank Orwan, one granddaughter, Christine Rice, two half-sisters and one half-brother.

     Charlotte was a housewife and loving mother.

     She was a member of Stony Run Mission.

     She loved to read her Bible and spend time with her family and friends.

     Her viewing and service will be at Stony Run Mission Church with Pastor Nick Smith and Pastor Mike Neimond officiating and will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Maze Crossroads Cemetery.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stony Run Mission, 2825 Evendale Hill Road, McAlisterville, PA 17049 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
