Barbara Elaine (Ickes) Reed

           Barbara Elaine (Ickes) Reed, 80, of Arch Rock, went to be with her Lord on September 8, 2020.  She was lovingly cared for by her husband, Cecil Jay Reed, who comforted her as the Lord called her Home.

     Barbara and Cecil were married on January 15, 1960 and were devoted to each other for over 60 years.

     Barbara was born on February 14, 1940, in Walnut, and preceded in death by her parents, Ronald Swartz Ickes and Margaret Mae (Wilson) Ickes.

     She was proud of and loved her five children, Deborah K. Dallmann (Edward Wilkie), Jay E. Reed, Robert E. Reed, Lori A. Doyle (Bill), and Brian L. Reed (Dawn),  Barb is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Elizabeth Nicole Doyle; David Allen Doyle, Jr.; Kayla Marie Reed; and Bo Victor Reed; and 3 great-grandchildren.

     Barb was a 1957 graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown.

     Since high school, she was employed as a seamstress, working at many of Juniata Co’s sewing factories.  She last worked at Corvette America before deciding to retire and enjoy life at home with Cecil and pursue many of her lifelong hobbies.  She was a wonderful artist, entering many of her landscapes in the Juniata Co. Fair and winning Blue Ribbons and painting for friends and family.  Her artistic talent was inherited from her mother, Mae Ickes, who was also an artist, writer, and poet.  Barb loved Bob Ross’s style of painting and much of her work was inspired by scenic Juniata County.  Barb also loved to crochet and knit and took pride in her precise stitches and beautiful afghans, baby clothes and decorations that she made for many.

     As Barb grew up on a farm, she was fond of animals, especially her current furbabies, Tommy, Gracie, and new kitty Blackie.

     Barb will be forever missed and loved by her friends, “sissie” Charlene, her family and especially her husband.  She will always be in their hearts. 

     Her graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Union Cemetery, Mifflintown, with Pastor Rey Villarreal officiating.
