Alice Gilson Obituary

   

     Alice L. (Sheerer) Gilson, 88, of Port Royal, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, at her home.

     Born Aug. 5, 1932, in Van Dyke, she was a daughter of the late Brehman L. and Elizabeth “Lizzie” M. (Derickson) Sheerer. Her husband, Robert C. Gilson, whom she married March 4, 1955, died on July 27, 2019.

     She is survived by two sons, Gregory S. Gilson and wife, Kathy, of Mifflin and Mark I. Gilson and wife, Tracey, of Port Royal, four grandchildren, William “Bill” Gilson and wife, Bonita, Tyler Gilson and wife, Erin, Tricia Ecker and husband, Paul, and Tessa Gilson and fiancé, Matt Meyerkopf, three grandchildren, Lexie Gilson, Lindsea Gilson, and Colton Ecker and three sisters, Esther “Essie” Dumm of Lewistown, Shirley Naylor of Mechanicsburg, and Patty Neimond of Lewistown.

     In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Charlie Sheerer, Jay Sheerer, Edgar Sheerer, Ira “Bill” Sheerer, Edward Sheerer, and Henry Sheerer and two sisters, Mary Herbster and Alma Becker.

     Alice worked at Provident National Bank in Coatesville for 15 years and was a loan officer at the First National Bank of Mifflintown from 1980 until she retired in 1998.

     She was a very active member of the Port Royal Presbyterian Church.

     She also belonged to the Mifflin Chapter No. 260 Order of the Eastern Star.

     She enjoyed playing bridge, cooking and loved her family and being with them.

     Interment will be in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal, at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be planned at a later time.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Centre Lutheran Church, 9259 William Penn Highway, Mifflintown PA  17059 or to the Port Royal Presbyterian Church, PO Box 387, Port Royal, PA 17082.
