    Vera Hazel Rhine, 96, of Mifflintown, formerly of Walnut, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016, at home.

     Born July 27, 1920, in Beale Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Edgar and Florence Viola (Henry) Nipple. Her husband, Jesse Ernest "Bud" Rhine, whom she married October 2,1942, died on August 31, 1982.

     She is survived by two sons, Donald Rhine, of Walnut, and Richard Rhine and wife Carol, of Mifflintown; one sister, Florence Long, of Port Royal; four grandchildren, Joseph Rhine (Candy), of Walnut; Susan Sieber (Mark), of Walnut; Timothy Rhine, of Mifflintown; Thomas Rhine (Rebecca), of Mifflintown; and eight great-grandchildren.

     She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Linda Rhine, and by her brother, Harold Nipple.

     After graduating from high school, Vera attended business school in Harrisburg. Primarily a homemaker, Vera also worked at various local businesses. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, playing the piano, doing puzzles and games, and reading extensively. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

     She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Nook.    

     There will be a viewing from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 20, at Guss Funeral Home, Mifflintown. The funeral will be Friday, October 21, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Nook, with the Rev. Charles L. Hershberger officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church cemetery.

     Please note that there will be no viewing prior to the service at the church.

     In lieu of flowers, those who desire are asked to make memorial contributions to Hospice: The Bridge, 305 4th St., Pleasant Acres, Lewistown, PA 17044; St. Paul's Lutheran Church, PO Box 337, Mifflin, PA 17058; or Guardian Home Care Specialists, 3272 Cuba Mills Rd., Mifflintown, PA 17059.
