Norma I. Abram, 93, of Mifflintown, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Brookline Manor.
Born April 21, 1930, in Altoona, she was a daughter of the late Millard C. and Martina (Wombacher) Stitt.
She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, James S. Abram, whom she married June 13, 1953, and four children, Susan L. Carbaugh of Newburg, Winifred “Wendy” C. Holtry and friend, John Herritt, of Shippensburg, Timothy J. Abram and wife, Ruby, of Palm Coast, FL, and Jeffrey S. Abram and wife, Joy, of Mifflintown. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Jason Carbaugh, Anthony Carbaugh, James Carbaugh, Taylor Abram, Jenell Bakey, Richard Abram, Michael Holtry, Jordan McElhose, Jessen Abram, and Joslyn Abram; twelve great-grandchildren, Hailey, Hunter, Abby, Asha, Maci, Jaidyn, Rylee, Maya, Jonas, Quinn, Thea, Norah; seven great-great-grandchildren, Laila, Ethan, Liam, Emma, Aria, Marina, and James VI. She has three sisters, Doris Bates of Grand Rapids, MI, Mary Catherine Barkman and husband, Jerry, of Punxsutawney, and Barbara Dick of Altoona.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Stitt and David Stitt, one sister, Rosella Brish, three brothers-in-law, Rev. Richard Bates, John Brish, and Lawrence Dick, and a son-in-law, William Carbaugh.
Norma graduated from Miner’s Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse in Pennsylvania Hospital on Spruce Street, Philadelphia and at Brookline Manor. She also served 25 years as a nurse with the American Red Cross.
She was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and served on many committees. She was also a former Brownie and Girl Scout leader.
She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, doing crafts, and reading. The most important thing in her life was her family, and she was proud of all of them. She especially enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and watching them grow.
Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 8, at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with Pastor Mindy Petrovcic officiating. Interment will follow in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
There will be a viewing on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home.
