     Gerald M. “Jake” Beasom, 84, of Mifflintown, passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.

     Born March 1, 1936 in Van Dyke, he was a son of the late Clarence M. and Mildred G. (McFarland) Beasom. His wife, Miriam “Mim” L. (Landis) Manbeck Beasom, died Dec. 14, 2020

     He is survived by four children, Jerry Beasom and wife, Lisa, of Mifflintown, Susan Kunkel and husband, Joey, of Mexico, Gary Beasom and wife, Christina “Sis”, of McCoysville, and Terry Beasom and wife, Vicki, of Port Royal, two step-children, Monica K. Wert and companion, Alan Monico, Sr., of Mifflintown and Timothy S. Manbeck and wife, Sherri, of Port Royal, one brother, William Basom of Thompsontown, one sister, Betty Johnson and husband, Merrill “Tuck”, of Woolrich, 13 grandchildren,  Ethan Beasom and wife Jaimee, Garin Beasom, Croix Beasom, Josh Kerstetter and wife, Kayla, Ashley Beasom and companion, Mike Duncan, Olivia Kunkel and companion, Ryan Arentz, Hunter Kunkel and companion, Kalea McGreehan, Kelsey Benner and husband, Cody, Rebecca Beasom, Megan Beasom, Shelly Foust and husband, Nick, Sandy Prince, and Trenton Beasom, 11 step-grandchildren, Jon Adam Wert, Justin T. Wert, Amanda E. Wert, Elijah W. Manbeck, Gideon J. Manbeck, Sarah P. Manbeck, Isaiah S. Manbeck, Esther E. Manbeck, Miriam R. Manbeck, Mary M. Manbeck, and Abraham L. Manbeck, eight great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

     In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence M. Beasom.

     Jake graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1954 and was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving from Dec. 8, 1954 until Dec. 7, 1956.

     He started working at the Van Dyke brick yard as a teenager and then worked at the creamery in Thompsontown. He worked the longest on the dock at Roadway and after retiring around 1997, he worked at John H. Sheaffer and Son in Mexico.

     He attended Otterbein United Methodist Church. He was a member of American Legion Post 298, Mifflintown, and a life member of Millerstown Moose.

     Jake loved going hunting at camp in Snowshoe. He enjoyed fishing and camping with Mim at various campgrounds.

     There will be a viewing beginning at 10 a.m. with a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18 at Otterbein United Methodist Church, East Salem, with Pastor Dave McElwee officiating. Interment will follow in the East Salem Otterbein Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church in care of Heidi Rapp, 1565 Baney Road, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
