     Maggie J. Schlegel, 89, of Van Dyke, passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, at Hearthside Nursing Center, State College.

     Born Sept. 27, 1929, in Saville, Perry Co., she was a daughter of the late Edward J. and Sadie (Swartwood) Swailes. Her husband, John M. Schlegel, died on Dec. 3, 2000.

     She is survived by one son, John E. Schlegel and wife, Becky, of Thompsontown, one daughter, Karen S. Beasom and husband, Robert, of McAlisterville, one brother, Warren Swailes and wife, Gloria, of Mifflintown, one sister, Martha Weiand of McAlisterville, her son-in-law, Darrel Snook of Middleburg, three granddaughters, two great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons, and one step-great-grandson

     She was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara A. Snook, two brothers, Charles Swailes and Sam Swailes, and five sisters, Lillian Fisher,  Mary Earles, Annie Hockenberry, Minnie Walton, and Shirley Rodgers.

     She worked at the dress factory in McAlisterville, but mainly was a homemaker.

     She was a member of Tuscarora Church of the Brethren, the Millerstown Moose, and attended the Four Seasons Senior Center when she was able.

     She enjoyed braiding rugs, doing puzzles and word searches, and attending auctions. She loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters and great-grandchildren and she loved family gatherings.

     Her funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with Pastor Joseph Yorks and Pastor Edward Watts, officiating.

Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Mifflintown.

     There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are respectfully encouraged to Tuscarora Church of the Brethren in care of 1324 Town Ridge Road, McAlisterville, PA 17049.

I am so sorry to hear of Aunt Mags passing but now she has no more suffering. I am sorry that I can't attend either service as I am away with my husband. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Sending our love.
