     Dorothy Jane "Dottie" (Groninger) Smith, 91, formerly of Mifflintown, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019, at North Ridge Center Personal Care, McAlisterville, surrounded by her family.

     Born Dec. 28, 1927, in Walker Township, Juniata Co., she was a daughter of the late Oscar George and Clara Mildred (Kauffman) Groninger. Her husband, Robert Earl "Hap" Smith, whom she married Oct. 22, 1948, passed away on July 2, 1995.

     She is survived by two children, Terry G. Smith and wife, Wanda, of McAlisterville, and Linda S. Leister and husband, Sam, of Mifflintown, six grandchildren, Jeremy Smith and wife, Alison, Amy Shepps and husband, Anthony, Randy Smith and wife, Jessica, Christie Holderman and husband, William, Stacie Kint and husband, Doyle, and Bethanie Beward and husband, Nick, and fourteen great-grandchildren, Amelia and Ryder Hap Smith, Sydney, Clara, and Scarlett Shepps, Bowie and Cecilia Smith, Briley and Marina Holderman, Malin, Gavin, and Darin Kint, and Thea and Brea Beward.

     She was preceded in death by five siblings, Sara "Sally" Dickson, Annabelle Postl, Elizabeth "Libby" Graham, Don "Tater" Groninger, and Edie Switzer.

     Dottie was a homemaker and farm wife who loved her family and being Mee-Maw. Many others also called her Mee-Maw. She was very interested in knowing  where her family was and what they were doing.

     She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, WELCA, the Needlers, and the Lloyd Showers Sunday School Class. She served on many other church committees throughout her life.

     She enjoyed writing poetry, participating in the activities at North Ridge, and was an avid Penn State football fan.

     Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, at Messiah Lutheran Church, corner of Washington Ave. and Third Street, Mifflintown, with Rev. Chris Mathiason, Pastor Terry Smith, and Mr. Sam Leister, officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.

     There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown and from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Thursday at the church.

     In lieu of flowers, those who desire are asked to make a memorial contribution to Messiah Lutheran Church, or the Messiah Lutheran Church Needlers, 3 S. Third St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.
