  Shirley L. Houtz, 82, of Mifflintown, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.

     Born May 15, 1936, in Locust Run, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Cleo Myrtle (Partner) Rice. Her husband, Wayne G. Houtz, whom she married July 28, 1956, died on July 7, 2002.

     She is survived by one son, James G. Houtz, and wife, Kelli of Mifflintown, one daughter, Tina M. Hutchinson and husband, Daryl, of Honey Grove, brother and sisters, Herbert Rice of Oregon, Virginia Zimmerman of Mifflintown, and Beverly "Becky" Kelley of Walnut, and three grandchildren, Jacob J. Houtz, Jennifer L. Houtz,, and Cody D. Hutchinson and wife, Janelle (Newlin).

     She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jessica Jo Houtz.

     As a young woman, Shirley worked at the Mifflin Dry Cleaners and was a seamstress at Lyon's Fashions and Juniata Garment. She worked in housekeeping at the EconoLodge for 17 years.

     She enjoyed reading, especially her Bible, doing her daily devotions, and coloring in her coloring books. She loved being with her family and was very proud of her grandchildrens' accomplishments and interested in their activities. She also loved her cat, Ginger.

     There will be a graveside service and interment  at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery, Licking Creek Valley, with Rev. Marsha Bookhamer, officiating.

     There will be no viewing.

      Memorial contributions may be made to 365 Hospice, 220 Regent Court, Suite E2, State College, PA 16801 or to Faith United Methodist Church, 32 Main St., East Waterford, PA 17021.
