     Kenneth J. "Ken" Van Bortel, 74, of Walnut, died Saturday, December 9, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

     Born December 28, 1942, in Rochester, NY, he was a son of the late Maynard and Carol (Frowley) Van Bortel.

     He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gloria (Voss) Van Bortel, whom he married May 2, 1964; three children, Richard James Van Bortel and wife, Deanne, of Beaufort, SC, Donna Marie Beitz and husband, Rusty, of Mifflintown, and Pamela Jean Welsh and husband, Edward, of Mifflintown; six siblings, Gary Van Bortel, Mark Van Bortel, Peter Van Bortel, Susan Reed, Karen Van Bortel, and Isaac Van Bortel: seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

     Ken was the owner of Ken's Trucks Inc. and drove truck for many years.

     He was a member of Cedar Grove Brethren In Christ Church, the Juniata Co. Sportsmen's Association, the Lewistown Sportsmen's Club, the National Rifle Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and the Experimental Aircraft Association.

     He enjoyed shooting, flying his airplane, traveling and camping, and spending time with his family.

     There will be a visitation from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday, Dec. 17 with a Celebration of Life service at 4 pm at Cedar Grove BIC Church with Pastor Ken Hepner, officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

     The family will provide all the funeral flowers and memorial contributions are requested to Cedar Grove BIC Church, 287 Deerville Road, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
