     John E. "Buck" McNeal, 82, of Port Royal, died Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at his home.

      He was born Feb. 15, 1935, in Mifflin.

      He is survived by his wife, Suzanne (Fulton) McNeal; three children, Pamela J. Angenent and husband, Willem, Mendon, MA; Gregg Fulton McNeal and wife, Maryjo, Cape Coral, FL; and Steven John McNeal of Bedford, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, Evon and William Clark McNeal, Sr., brother, William Clark McNeal, Jr., and son-in-law, Michael Montanya.

      He graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1953 and held graduate degrees from Millersville State College, University of Delaware, University of Virginia, and West Virginia University.

      He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served from 1954 to 1957.

      He taught public schools in Lancaster County, was an Associate Professor of American History at Saint Francis College in Loretto, and a lawyer for the government of the District of Columbia.

      He was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, the Marine Corps League, the ACLU, and the Democratic National Committee. He had been president of the Port Royal Borough Council and chairman of the Port Royal Water Authority.

      John will be remembered for his integrity and sense of humor.  His proudest and prized achievement was the raising of his childen and grands.  He enjoyed running, sports, reading, and coaching.

      There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am on Saturday, March 4, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, Mifflintown, with the Rev. William Weary officiating. Interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.

      Although there will be no public viewing, the family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the services.

     The family will provide all funeral flowers and requests that memorial contributions be made to The Kiski School Scholarship Fund, 1888 Brett Lane, Saltsburg, PA 15681.
