     John Edward Guss, 95, formerly of Mifflintown, died Tuesday, December 27, 2016, in Aiken, South Carolina where he had been a resident since 2012.

     Born July 1, 1921, in Mifflintown, he was a son of the late Edward and Anna Mary Woodward Guss.

     John is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Atchley and husband, Cecil, of Aiken, SC; one son, Stan Guss and wife, Gail, of Ft. Pierce, FL; two grandchildren, Stacie Bays, and Kymberly Buchanan; three great-grandchildren, Shania Bays, Thorin Bays, Lydia Buchanan; a sister, Sarah Tabb, Mifflintown, PA.

     He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Pannebaker Guss on Jan. 4, 2004, an infant daughter, Carol, and two brothers, Paul E. Guss and Roy M. Guss.

     He served in the US Army during WWII, was a carpenter, and a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, PA.

     There will be a viewing beginning at 1:30 p.m. with the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church with Rev. Chris Mathiason, officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery.
     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephens Lutheran Church, 8489 Licking Creek Rd., Mifflintown, PA 17059.
