     Betty J. Aughey Houtz, 92, of Mifflintown, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.

     Born Dec. 8, 1923, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Walter D. and Bertha (Reed) Hartsock.

     She is survived by one daughter, Jane E. Wagner and husband, Paul, of Mifflintown, one son, Samuel L. Aughey and wife, Sally,  of Evington, Va., five grandchildren, Connie Wagner Shoop, Timothy Wagner, Michael Aughey, Keith Aughey, and Elizabeth Aughey Wilson; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Weakland of Ocala, Fla., and six step-children, Jerry Houtz, Curt Houtz, Howard Houtz, Randy Houtz, Chris Houtz, and Annette Burdge.

     She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry L. Aughey on Dec. 1, 1975 and her second husband, G. Denton Houtz on May 5, 1998; seven brothers, Eugene, George, Charles, Walter, Paul, Clark, and William Hartsock and two sisters, Isabelle Hartsock and Elizabeth Dodd.

     Betty was a homemaker, and also worked at Montgomery Ward, Fisher Electronics, Gloss Lumber, and was the Milford Township tax collector.

     She was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church where she was the church organist for more than 30 years, was active with WELCA and other church activities and was formerly in charge of Vacation Bible School.

     She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing cards and especially spending time with her family and friends.

     Her funeral will be held at 11 am Monday, Sept. 12, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Licking Creek Valley, with Pastor Chris Mathiason, officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery.

     There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, and on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.

The doors to the funeral home will be open on Sunday afternoon after 4 p.m., but the family will not be present until 6 p.m.

     Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Building Fund, 8489 Licking Creek Road, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
